Facts about Rohypnol

Rohypnol is not licensed in the United States;
however, it is being brought into this country
from Europe and Latin America, where
is those countries it is dispensed legally.

Also known as "roofie", "rape drug" and
"forget me drug". Rohypnol is a small, white,
2 mg. tablet that is odorless and colorless when placed
in liquid.

Some are taking the drug voluntarily in order to heighten the effects of alcohol and/or marijuana. Others are unknowingly ingesting the substance which has been placed in an alcoholic drink or other beverage. Rohypnol can cause loss of inhibition, extreme sleepiness, relaxation and amnesia.

In cases where "roofie rape" has occurred, the drug made the victims less resistant to the attack. The resulting amnesia often makes it difficult for the victim to remember and report the crime.

You are advised to follow these safety precautions and report any suspected use of this drug to the police:
Never accept a beverage unless it is in a sealed container.
Never leave a beverage unattended.
Never go out with or go home with anyone you do not know well.
Never leave a friend who is displaying any effects of this drug; be sure to see him or her safely home.
