Some
are taking the drug voluntarily in order to heighten the effects of
alcohol and/or marijuana. Others are unknowingly ingesting the substance
which has been placed in an alcoholic drink or other beverage. Rohypnol
can cause loss of inhibition, extreme sleepiness, relaxation and amnesia.
In
cases where "roofie rape" has occurred, the drug made the
victims less resistant to the attack. The resulting amnesia often makes
it difficult for the victim to remember and report the crime.
You
are advised to follow these safety precautions and report any suspected
use of this drug to the police:
Never accept a beverage unless it is in a sealed
container.
Never leave a beverage unattended.
