1. Make use of the WKU Website. Utilize it for all campus contact
information (i.e. calendars, campus maps, upcoming events and other
pertinent information for the university.)
2. Don’t hesitate to contact university staff and/or administrators for answers
to any of your questions.
3. Make sure your son/daughter gets in touch with his/her roommate prior to
moving into their residence hall. This will eliminate duplicate items such as
televisions, microwaves, refrigerators, telephones, etc.
4. Take advantage of all parent information sessions during OAR, Focus on
Western tours, etc.
5. Take an active role and encourage your child to get involved with on
campus activities. WKU offers over 250 clubs and organizations, as well as
residence hall councils, as a way to get involved outside the classroom!
6. Make sure to look into renters
insurance to cover your child’s
personal property if it will not be
covered under your homeowner’s
insurance policy.
7. Keep an inventory (include serial
numbers) of your child’s personal
property and engrave electronics
and appliances.
8. Bring a hand dolly with you to move your student into his/her residence
hall! Things will go much quicker!
