The counseling center sees around 500 WKU students a year.
Over half (60%) of the student we see have not been in therapy before.
There is no fee for counseling. Student records are kept confidential and apart from other records such as admissions, academic and judicial.

If a student needs medication for a psychiatric condition, we help them get connected with local psychiatrists at the Medical Center or WKU Health Services.
The counseling center conducts three national screening days a year. There is a general mental health day in October, an eating disorder screening in February and an alcohol screening day in March. Several hundred students participate.
The Counseling and Testing Center offers a variety of psychological testing. These tests are free of charge and include: personality, achievement, intelligence and for a variety of disorders (eating, alcohol/drug abuse, anger and trauma).
The Health and Counseling Department coordinates a month of Sexual Assault awareness activities with hope harbor and other community organizations.
Most people come into counseling for treatment of depression or anxiety.
Several members of the Counseling Center teaching psychology and sociology courses in order to keep connected to the WKU academic community.
The Counseling and Testing Center is located on 4th floor Potter Hall at the top of the hill.
While there is no limit to the number of counseling sessions a student can use, the average number of counseling sessions is 4.
Approximately 67% of those coming to counseling are female. 33% are male.
The Counseling and Testing Center cannot share any counseling information with professors, staff or parents without permission from the student.
The Counseling and Testing Center hires several graduate interns who are in the process of finishing their schooling and obtaining their licensure. This helps us avoid wait-lists and provides a diverse collection of therapeutic approaches for students.
The Counseling and Testing department offers Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training to students, faculty and staff. Our goal is to reach 1 in 4 of the WKU community.
The Counseling and Testing Center has a lending library of over 100 books and films available for students to use throughout the year.
The Counseling and Testing Center assists with the training of the Resident Advisor (RA) training over the summer to ensure the RA's understand mental illness, how to assess for at-risk behaviors and how to respond in an emergency.
