Laws

A number of federal and state laws impose special obligations on the University and require particular attention. Among them are:

Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990

Civil Rights Act of 1991

Executive Order 11246

Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986

Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

The Age Discrimination Act of 1975

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967

The Equal Pay Act of 1963

The Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Act of 1974

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972

These laws protect individuals from discrimination in educational and recreational programs, activities and employment. Discrimination is prohibited on the basis of race, sex (including sexual harassment), religion, color, national or ethnic origin, age, military service, and disability.

Individuals should call The Office of Equal Opportunity/ Affirmative Action/ University ADA Services for any of the following concerns:

1. That you have been subjected to unlawful discrimination.

2. You believe there has been a violation of Western's Anti-Harassment policy or policy on nondiscrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

3. You would like additional information concerning the university's dispute resolution procedure.
