Huda Melky

Huda Melky is the Equal Opportunity Director and ADA Coordinator for Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/University ADA Services at Western Kentucky University. Her responsibilities include monitoring the University’s compliance with federal, state, and local legislation governing nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action, university programs inclusive of Title VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (as amended).

Ms. Melky conducts workshops dealing with sexual harassment, diversity and disability issues, oversees recruitment, hiring, promotions, terminations, grievances, salaries, and other terms of employment regarding Affirmative Action programs. In addition, she serves on the University Diversity Advisory Board and is the Regional Director to the American Association for Affirmative Action. Since 1990, Ms. Melky has also served as Chair for the Higher Education ADA Task Force and is currently a member.

 

 

Joshua Hayes

Joshua D.Hayes is the Equal Opportunity Coordinator/Data Analyst. His primary responsibilities include the collection, analysis, and dissemination of statistical and textual information used by the EO staff to carry out the mission of the office. Specific duties include coordinating the compilation of the university's annual Affirmative Action Plan, providing instruction and orientation regarding hiring procedures, conducting workshops on diversity and communication, assisting search committees in obtaining a diverse applicant pool and serving as editor of the Equal Opportunity Report. Joshua is also a member of the American Association for Affirmative Action, and serves as the State Coordinator for Kentucky.

 

Cindy Smith

Cindy is responsible for general clerical operations of the department inclusive of ensuring positive customer relations, processing forms for the university’s hiring process by filing, copying, and tracking personnel reports, preparing purchasing and financial statements, and maintaining departmental budget records.

Cindy comes to the EOO with 20 years of secretarial experience.  She began working in 1980 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN where she was employed for 17 years.  After leaving, she worked at Per Se Technologies in Lexington, KY for 3 years.   The past 7 years has been devoted to raising her children, volunteer work at her church, at the school her children attend, spending time with her grandson, and training for races.
