| Initiate a Background Investigation Effective July 12, 2006, and in compliance with HB 3, which was approved by the 2006 General Assembly, all "new hires" are subject to a criminal background check. This requirement applies to all positions including faculty, staff, full-time, part-time, temporary, time-limited, graduate assistants and student employees who begin employment on or after July 12, 2006. In cases of rehire (interruption of continued employment), a background check is not required unless the separation in employment is for a period greater than 24 months. (Note: a transfer from one department/unit to another is not considered a break in employment and no background check is required unless specifically noted in position requirements.) Hiring departments/units should initiate a criminal background check request following an offer of employment to a proposed hire. Applicants should be advised that employment is conditional based on a satisfactory criminal background check assessment. |
