Assessment in Academic Programs

Please note that all components of an academic program’s assessment activities can be summarized and document in an online format.

Academic Programs will develop assessment plans for the current academic year and submit to department head by October 15th. Assessment Plans include:
o Linkage to University Mission and Strategic Goal(s)
o Educational Outcomes for current year
     o Means of Assessment
     o Criteria for Success
Department Heads will review assessment plans and discuss with department heads and program faculty as necessary. Each department head will forward plans(on-line) to the Chair of the University Outcomes Assessment Committee (UOAC) by November 1st.
The Chair of the UOAC will disseminate assessment plans to UOAC subcommittees.
UOAC subcommittees will review assessment plans using the UOAC review form for academic programs and provide feedback to academic units as appropriate by December 1st.
Program faculty finalize and submit assessment plans for the current academic year by February 1st.
Program faculty continue with implementation of the assessment plan including the gathering and processing of assessment data for the current academic year.
Program faculty evaluate and interpret the information obtained through the assessment process and determine appropriate actions by September 15th.
Program faculty provide a brief report on the assessment findings that demonstrates how assessment information was used to make decisions regarding their program (i.e. how they “closed the loop”). The report should include the observation made, a summary of the data from which the observation came, and the changes in the program made based on the observation. The assessment report should be completed by September 15th.
Program faculty proceed with the implementation of the decision over the appropriate time period.
Program faculty follow up on the impact of the change and document observable improvements resulting from the change.
