Strategic Planning

“The art of progress is to preserve order amid change,
and to preserve change amid order.”

-Alfred North Whitehead

“We are engaged in a significant transformation
at Western Kentucky University—a transformation
from a university of regional importance
to one of national prominence.”
WKU President Gary Ransdell

Western’s Strategic Plan, Challenging the Spirit, provides an ongoing framework for the transformation now in progress at the University. Originally approved by the Board of Regents in 1998, the plan is updated regularly as the University pursues its dynamic agenda of evolving, improving, and aspiring. Challenging the Spirit encompasses an ongoing process and discipline of planning that is embedded in the culture and practices of the University. Success in the first five years of this plan gives the faculty, staff, students, and alumni the confidence needed to achieve the national prominence to which the plan points.
