Since 1996, The Center for Gifted Studies has collaborated with The College Board in offering Vertical Team Training. These institutes are designed to provide an opportunity for teams of teachers to explore ways to bridge the gap between middle and high school curricula. Participants will be trained to use the College Board Vertical Team Guides and other auxiliary materials; this training will provide stronger vertical articulation and communication in their district's curriculum and instruction in grades 6-12. As one past participant commented: "The training provides me with a new perspective for instruction, affords practical ways to apply the instruction to my classes, and has given me the opportunity to share with colleagues." Vertical alignment of the curriculum enables students to reach world-class standards.
Vertical Team Summer Institute
July 9 - 12, 2007
Students must be able to reach world-class standards to compete globally. Vertical articulation of curriculum provides that opportunity as does the making of Advanced Placement courses available to more students. The Center for Gifted Studies at Western Kentucky University in collaboration with The College Board is pleased to offer the Vertical Team Summer Institute. This institute is designed for teams of teachers who wish to be trained to use the College Board Vertical Team Guides and other auxiliary materials; this training will provide stronger vertical articulation and communication in their district's mathematics, English, science, social studies/history, or world languages curriculum and instruction in grades 6-12. As one past participant commented: "The training provides me with a new perspective for instruction, affords practical ways to apply the instruction to my classes, and has given me the opportunity to share with colleagues."
Institute Content and Consultants
The consultants are experienced teachers who have demonstrated their ability to help other teachers prepare to use the Vertical Team Guides. Workshop participants will be prepared to return to their schools and help other teachers learn to use these strategies, methods, and materials.

The completed Team Application should be returned to The Center for Gifted Studies. The registration fee is $350 per team member.
