Dr. Roberts is very highly regarded in the field of gifted education. She received the first ever David W. Belin Advocacy Award from the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) in 2001. In 1998, she was one of two Western Kentucky University Distinguished Professors. Not only does she serve on NAGC's Board of Directors, but she also chairs their Legislative Task Force. She has been the Political Action Coordinator and Treasurer for The Association for the Gifted, a division of The Council for Exceptional Children. In 2002 The Center for Gifted Studies received an endowed professorship in Gifted Education, which few universities have. Dr. Julia Roberts is the first to be named to this endowed professorship. Dr. Roberts teaches in the online G/T Endorsement at Western Kentucky University.

The Associate Director of The Center is Ms. Tracy Inman. Ms. Inman has been involved in education for many years in a variety of capacities. As a past semi-finalist for Kentucky Teacher of the Year, a teacher in VAMPY and Super Saturdays, and editor of The Center's award-winning newsletter The Challenge, Ms. Inman brings a myriad of talents and energy to The Center.
