Since 1984, The Center for Gifted Studies has offered programming for gifted and talented young people. And since that time, thousands have come here to Western. Most of these young people come back year after year; many even return as adults to be counselors for SCATS and VAMPY.
What is it about The Center that creates such loyalty? It's probably a combination of challenge, acceptance, friendship, and fun. But you would know best.
If you've reached this page, you're probably one of us. Perhaps you're a former SCATS camper or even a Super Saturdays kid. Maybe you were a summer counselor or a teaching assistant. It could be that you're one of the dozen or so who've set up an unofficial VAMPY web site. Whatever the connection, you belong -- just as you did that first venture to the hill.
You're important to us. Without you, we wouldn't be what we are academically, socially, or even financially. We want to know more about you -- what road your life has taken. We want to know how we can help you now. And we want to know if you can help us help others -- whether that be with information or even through development.
Please take just a minute to complete a questionnaire that we recently sent to our alumni. Click here to download a copy. You can fax or mail it to us. We really would like to hear from you!
Save July 1 for the kick-off of our year-long celebration of twenty-five years for The Center for Gifted Studies. We will be hosting a picnic for all of our alumni and friends. The day will also include the inaugural meeting of The Center for Gifted Studies Alumni Association.
Recently, an alumnus updated his information and included this note:
I'm glad to see that middle and high schoolers are still
enjoying VAMPY just as I did a decade ago. I'll never forget the friends I made there and the self-confidence the camp instilled in me.
In fact, I still go through my old photo albums every once in a while and think back to how much fun I had!
