It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with the center at which the exam will be supervised. For exams taken at centers other than Western Kentucky University’s DELO Testing Center, located in Garrett Conference Center, arrangements should be made before the exam request form is sent to the Office of Independent Learning.
All Independent Learning courses require a proctored final examination; some courses have more than one examination. An application for the examination is included with your course. This request must be received by our office after you have turned in all assignments. In the case of midterm exams, you must have turned in all assignments up to the midterm. If you wish to take your exam at Western Kentucky University’s DELO Testing Center, you may do so by choosing the option below, or by contacting them at 270-745-5122. Examinations are administered in Garrett Conference Center room 108 on Western’s campus Monday through Friday (except campus-observed holidays) between 8:30am and 2:30pm CST. Exams may also be scheduled on Saturdays from 8:30am to 11:00am. Walk–ins are not allowed on Saturdays, so please make an appointment.
Be prepared to show a valid photo ID before taking your exam and any proctored location. Valid forms of ID include WKU Student ID, state issued driver’s licence, passport or military photo ID.
You may choose one of the other examination sites in Kentucky. The list of sites and contact information is included in your packet with the examination request form and is also on our website. If you are out of state, you will need to make arrangements with a local community college or university. Approved supervisory personnel include directors of independent study programs, directors of testing or counseling services, director of admissions, or academic dean. Non-administrative faculty members would not be approved to receive and administer these exams. Students on active duty in military service, or their dependents, may take the examination under the supervision of their base education officer or someone designated by that officer.
It is your responsibility to arrange your appointment with the testing supervisor, and you should do this before you return you exam request form to Independent Learning. Please allow ten days for the exam application to reach us, be processed, and be mailed to the examination site when requesting that exams be mailed to other campuses.
Some institutions may charge a fee, so you should ask when you make your arrangements to test at that site. Western Kentucky University does not charge a fee for proctoring. To receive credit for an Independent Learning course, the student must complete a supervised final examination after all assignments have been received by Independent Learning and before the course expiration date. YOU MUST PASS THE FINAL EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO PASS THE COURSE.
Once you have been approved to take your exam by Independent Learning, you may request a test date by using the Examination Request Form link below, fill out the form, choose a proctor (in KY, USA, or provide your own proctor information for out–of–state), and click on the SUBMIT button to send your request. You should receive email confirmation within 72 hours of your request. Please remember that your exam will be sent via UPS to the exam center you request, so you must make your request at least ten days prior to your exam date. Exams are mailed back to our office via a prepaid envelope; if you would like for it to reach us faster we recommend you bring an express mail or overnight paid package with you to the examination center.
