1. Role-playing in the classroom is for those will- ing to take risks and
wanting something differnt to do. However, use it in moderation.
2. Select a subject with which you are comfort- able and especially knowledgeable.
3. Role-play a key figure, concept, thing (e.g., a molecule), or an ordinary
person from another time or place.
4. Don't preach. Be the character.
5. Keep your costume simple: neual clothing or a simple prop (e.g., a scarf
or hat).
6. Tell students 1-2 days ahead that a guest will be coming and to prepare
questions. It teaches them to probe and analyze and stirs up conversation.
7. You can use vignettes to relate a story or event.
