to Teach a New Class

1. In an appropriate news group on the Internet ask for recommendations for
a textbook and other ideas for the class.
2. Create an outline of the course before the semester and try to get a copy
of the course proposal, look in the catalog for a description.
3. Record modifications after each class on your lecture notesÑwhat
worked, what didn't. Revise and update the course as you go through the material.
4. Select two textbooks one for the students and one to provide supplements
for your lecture.
5. Use your colleagues who have taught the course and cuIrent students as resources
for planning and revising it.
