Other Issues:

Activity for Establishing Class Behavior Rules:
Give students a very short list of rules and discuss it the first night of class. A shorter list is better, as most people tend to not remember long lists. Long lists of rules tend to reflect control issues within the faculty member, and this type of behavior often causes more trouble than it prevents.

There are also a greater number of students who have mild to severe emotional disruptions taking place in their lives and some of these overflow in the classroom setting.

The WKUPD has a “Crime Prevention Program,” that is more than willing to advise faculty groups, how best to deal with anything from “Disruptive Individuals” in the classroom, to “Bomb Threats” that interrupt the teaching and learning environment. Classes can be arranged at the convenience of faculty, by contacting WKUPD at 745-2548, and asking for Police Officer Joe Harbaugh.
