Challenges:

Faculty need to realize that students are human and come to class with damage and pain which can be made worse by rude or insensitive faculty behavior. Students must also understand that despite their damage and pain the world goes on and class goes on as well.

Faculty are often seen as parent objects by students, and as objects they will be pulled and pushed to undo the damage of parents on students. Faculty need to be able to see these “traps” and not play into them. Faculty also need not ignore these traps either.

Other challenges that a faculty member needs to be aware of is that there are a number of students that come to us from a much greater variety of educational backgrounds than we previously received, including a number of nontraditional students who only possess the experiences and protocol which were accepted in their previous work environment.
