Influenza

1) A student who has the ‘flu, may miss up to one or two weeks of classes.
2) Limitations in the availability of ‘flu vaccine may prevent everyone form getting it.
3) Even people who get the ‘flu vaccine may develop the disease.

Mood disorders/Substance abuse

1) Faculty may be hesitant to address a sensitive issue with the students.
2) Students are not always ready to admit that there is a problem.

Diabetes

1) Some students and faculty still feel there is a stigma with having a chronic disease, so a student may be hesitant to let other people know if they have diabetes.
2) If someone is having an insulin reaction, and those around do not know how to respond, the situation can be life threatening.
3) Students in college may experiment with alcohol. If they are diabetic, this can cause extreme changes if their blood glucose levels.

Seizures

1) Students may be embarrassed to address this issue with other people.
2) Medications to control seizures may cause sedation.
