Learning Objectives:

Participants in this workshop will be able to:

  1. Identify the steps needed in an integration process to build authentic cross disciplinary content connections into the curriculum.
  2. Specify “best practice” teaching/assessment activities which link with the various modes of cognition (ways of knowing) which are defined by Gardner
  3. Design a unit of study that illustrates how the steps to integration were used to connect content across disciplines and incorporates multi-modal “best practices” for learning
  4. Compare the cross-disciplinary infused curriculum with “best practices” to a traditional curriculum and teaching practice.

Discussion Questions

  1. Do you incorporate content from other disciplines into your teaching?
  2. What are the steps one uses to connect content of one subject to another in the design of cross-disciplinary units of instruction?
  3. What ideas about “best practices” did you gain from the Teaching with the Multiple Intelligences Questionnaire?
  4. Have you considered or consulted with faculty in other subject areas about collaboration regarding cross-disciplinary instruction?
  5. What are the multiple intelligences? What types of learning activities have you linked to each intelligence?
  6. What types of learning activities do you include in instruction? Have you included multiple ways of knowing or “best practices” in course instruction?
  7. What types of “best practices” and diverse learning activities would you consider including in instruction?
