Accountability in Higher Education: Affecting the Teacher

David Coffey, Agriculture Department

Among the challenges of accountability in higher education are...

Many university teachers practice their academic freedom in classroom instruction with variable results. Teaching methods, assessment styles, and different content are rarely evaluated. Should one expect one student enrolled in the same General Ed course as another to have the same knowledge upon completion?

WKU is improving its enrollment, retention and graduation rates according to CPE data. Our alumni are less pleased with their experience than alumni from many universities. What is the role of the college professor in classroom teaching as related to CPE expectations?

Does the average WKU classroom teacher link Primary to 12 learning with the overall P – 16 experience?
