Who are Students of Faith?

The students at WKU generally reflect the predominantly Protestant Christian population of the region. Of course, the university also has a significant Roman Catholic population. (For example, Admission Office statistics for fall 2002 list 3827 Baptists and 1600 Catholics.)

According to statistics from the Office of International Programs, we have 523 students from foreign countries, including South Asia (244 students), East Asia (131), Southeast Asia (16), and Africa (15). From this we can surmise that WKU has student populations representing a variety of faith traditions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Confucianism, Taoism, and Shinto. Over the past decade, our own region in southcentral Kentucky and middle Tennessee has become more religiously diverse because of immigration. For example, Bowling Green has a population of approximately 2500 Bosnians, the majority of whom are Muslim.
