Unfortunately, undergraduate diversity within the agricultural progam is only present in rural vs. urban differences. There is only one African-American student and just three international students. Although our faculty is quite diversified, our student population is not. For many students, the “Bowling Green and WKU” experience will be their major life experience away from home. Academically, many aggies from smaller rural schools have to enroll in remedial classes. Agricultural students tend to have conservative values related to social issues such as gun control, diet, animal use, environment, defense and the family. Most question the value of welfare but readily accept government farm subsidy checks.
