Discussion Questions
1) This all sounds fine and good---but this student is a disruption to my class. How I am supposed to teach the material, keep the class focused and then have caring conversations with a student who is clearly in denial about their substance abuse problem?
2) I have my own substance abuse history and worry that I may have an over-sensitivity to seeing these problems in college students. I try to avoid the situation all-together. Isn’t this a better way of dealing with it?
3) What have you seen in class that may be due to an addiction? How did you handle it (Please change identifying information)? What happened?
4) What factors keep you from helping a student with an addiction?
5) In what ways might you incorporate addiction awareness in your courses?
