This is a general description for those making long-term plans. The specific terms may change from time to time with input from our Faculty Advisory Council or university administration.
The Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching periodically hires a Faculty
Associate for a
half-time load reassignment to the FaCET. Candidates should be tenured
faculty members who can obtain load reassignment from their department for
a period
of at least 2 to 3 years, beginning with new faculty orientation, in the
upcoming fall term. New faculty orientation activities typically involve
the week
before the opening sessions. Compensation to the department is provided
consistent with university standards. At the current time that is $5,000
per year for a half-time reassignment.
Initial activities will likely require some training and skill development provided by the FaCET.
The Faculty Associate works with the Director to plan and provide
activities that support teaching excellence at WKU. These activities
include workshop
planning and implementation, individual consultation, and organizing and
hosting some FaCET programs. Besides these general duties, the Associate
may
assist with publications, encourage appropriate use of instructional
technologies, or work with New Faculty orientation and the Mentoring
program.
The Faculty Associate is expected to build positive, supportive,
professional relationships with a wide variety of instructors across disciplines.
The
Associate is expected to maintain the trust and confidentiality of
Center
constituents. The individual shall develop/maintain currency in the faculty
development literature. The position reports to the Director of the
Center.
Candidates should be full-time faculty with relevant experience in the areas of teaching and instructional development. They should have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and have a demonstrated sensitivity and capacity to work with diverse groups of people. Tenured faculty are strongly preferred.
