
You can use one of the online forms below to apply to the Honors College. The Incoming Freshman Program Application and Current Student Program Application can be completed and submitted electronically. Once you have applied for admission to the university, we will process your application to the program and get back to you.
Incoming Freshman Program Application: For new college students. Use this form if you are currently a high school senior or have completed less than 16 hours of college credit.
Current College Student Program Application: For current Western or transfer students. Use this form if you have completed 16 or more hours of college credit since graduating from high school.
The
following forms should be used by current Honors students requesting funds
from the College or submitting Honors augmentation, independent study,
Honors thesis or area study major/minor proposals. These are
PDF forms that must be filled out online and then printed - which you will then submit to the Honors College with all appropriate signatures. You will need to have Acrobat Reader installed on your

Honors Development Grant: To request funds for thesis-related expenses, travel to professional meetings, international or other degree-related off-campus study.
Honors Augmentation Contract: To request honors-augmented credit for an upper-division course in the major or minor discipline. These must be submitted with all appropriate signatures by the end of the third week of classes in which the course is taken.
Honors Independent Study Proposal: To request honors credit for independent study courses. These must be submitted with all necessary supporting materials by the end of the second week of classes in which the course is taken. Students enrolling in IND 103, 203, 303 or any departmental independent study course number must submit this form in order to receive honors credit.
Honors Thesis Proposal: To declare your intent to pursue an honors thesis project. Thesis proposals must be discussed with the Honors Thesis Coordinator prior to enrolling for any honors thesis credits. The Thesis Coordinator will then issue a course pass.
Area Study Major/Minor Proposal: To request approval for an individualized major or minor program of study. These must be submitted with all apprpriate signatures prior to completion of 15 credit hours in the proposed major program (12 hours for minor programs), and must be approved by the Honors Development Board.
Study Abroad Honors Credit: For students who have recently studied abroad or are studying abroad; you can recieve Honors credit at WKU for your courses taken abroad. You can recieve up to three credit hours of Honors by approval of the Honors Director and petiton the Honors Development Board for up to nine credit hours of Honors. This form must be completed, signed, and returned to the Honors Center by the third Friday of the semester following your trip abroad.
Summer Lifetime Experience Grant: The Summer Lifetime Experience Grant (SLEG) supports self-designed off-campus experiences that will enable students to pursue a passionate interest in a way and to a degree not otherwise possible. The grant is intended to identify and assist promising candidates for nationally competitive fellowships including, but not limited to, the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Fulbright, Goldwater, etc. Thus students applying for a SLEG are expected to exhibit the qualities of mind, character and leadership typically seen in an applicant for these prestigious awards. These projects are to be student initiated and led, not co-sponsored with their advisor, focused on public service, improving the lives of others and/or giving back to society.
