“As an institution of higher learning we are obligated to act as a model of conservation, efficiency, and
sustainability. We will emphasize personal responsibility, and lead by example, making significant changes in
the way we build, operate, and teach. WKU seeks to be known as a leader in sustainability while ensuring a

Welcome to the WKU Education for Sustainability Gateway – a source for information on the wide range of scholarship, programs, and opportunities available at WKU related to education for sustainability. WKU embraces its important role in helping to shape our society as it transitions to a more sustainable and just future. In 2004 WKU signed the Talloires Declaration.
In 2010 the Board of Regents adopted sustainability and Education for Sustainability as core values for WKU.

WKUs mission to prepare students to be productive, engaged, and socially responsible citizen-leaders in a global society has increased its focus on interdisciplinary studies and research, international studies, and regional stewardship. Classes work with campus and community partners by involving students in real-world issues, problem-solving, and action research.  Through incorporating concepts of citizenship, social responsibility, and sustainability in coursework, research, and operations, WKU students are being prepared to meet the complex global challenges of today. These strategies will help build the knowledge, values and skills needed to address the high stakes sustainability challenges facing us in the 21st century.

We invite you to explore this Gateway to learn about the varied and exciting programs and opportunities related to citizenship, social responsibility, and education for sustainability available at WKU.
