Message about budget cuts from President Ransdell: (Forum 4/17 @

2 pm MMTH Auditorium

Now that the Kentucky General Assembly has passed the 2008-10 budget, we as a campus community must complete our own budget process.  In January we knew that we would begin the 2008-09 fiscal year with approximately $2.5 million less funding from the State and worked diligently throughout the legislative session to hold back larger cuts, some proposed to be as much as an additional 12 percent.  The budget that was ultimately passed by the General Assembly includes an additional 3 percent reduction, which for WKU is approximately $2.5 million in addition to the previous budget reduction.

I am inviting all WKU students to join me and key administrators on Thursday, April 17, at 2 p.m. in the Mass Media and Technology Hall Auditorium for a campus forum to discuss our budget situation and to have an open dialogue on the tuition increase for fall 2008. We will outline the budget process used to determine a tuition rate, enrollment projections, and spending priorities as we plan for 2008-09.
