NURSE AIDE



Medicaid Nurse Aides provide personal care to people of all ages in various types of health care settings. They usually work under the supervision of other health care professionals. Their duties include: take and record patients' temperature, pulse, and blood pressure; assist patients in and out of bed; and assist with patients' personal hygiene. The job is physically demanding.

Education

The course is 75 hours including a 16-hour clinical component. The nurse aide course prepares graduates to take the Kentucky Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation. Students receive instruction in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and personal care.

Registration/Certification/Licensure

Students must pass the Kentucky Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation to be registered as a Medicaid nurse aide. Individuals who have successfully completed a nursing fundamental course in either a prelicensure practical nursing or registered nursing education program, shall within one year of completion of the nursing program not be required to complete the 75-hour nurse aide training program to take the competency evaluation. An official transcript should be presented to the Kentucky Nurse Aide Training (KNAT) Coordinator for the exam to be scheduled.

Salary

$11,000-22,000
