HEALTH INFORMATION ADMINISTRATOR
A health information administrator
is responsible for planning, developing and managing information systems
for recording, storage and retrieval of medical data. They must ensure
the confidentiality of the information in the medical record system, develop
and conduct training of health information personnel and assist the medical
staff in evaluating the quality of health care. The information in medical
records is used to evaluate patient care and plan health care activities.
Duties also include managing the personnel in the health information department.
Education
Health information administrators
must complete a bachelors degree in an academic program accredited by the
American Health Information Management Association. Some administrators
complete a one-year program after having completed a four-year degree in
science and statistics.
Registration/Certification/Licensure
Certification as a Registered
Record Administrator (RRA) can be obtained by successfully completing the
national registration exam sponsored by the American Health Information
Management Association.
Salary
$30,000-50,000
