President's Corner

Fellow Alumni,

As summer nears an end, this cool morning it is a sign of fall and great homecoming activities. I hope you have enjoyed your summer as those 23 alumni who attended the summer meeting enjoyed a day at the state’s capital with a little history of Frankfort and a tour of the famous Rebecca Ruth candies factory. I look forward to seeing you again and those of you that were unable to attend will be able to join us on November 10th for the “Movin’ on Up” Homecoming activities.

Plans for the 2007 Homecoming Brunch have been made to make lasting memories for you to share with former classmates and new acquaintances. The annual Alumni Brunch will begin at 10:00 with silent auction open for bids. There will be door prizes, speakers, entertainment and lots of laughs from reminiscing so be sure and send in your reservations to Lauri Warden by October 31st. Also if you have items (Western memorabilia, gift certificates, themed baskets ect.) you would like to contribute to the silent auction for the scholarship fund please bring them by the department on or before 9:30 a.m. on November 10th.

As all alumni have “Moved on Up” in their families, careers, and communities, it is important that you take time to reflect on where you have been and what a better place to do that than with college friends. I challenge you to not only attend the homecoming activities but to get as many of your classmates to attend with you so that you can share your accomplishments, see the new changes on campus as Western has “Moved on UP” into the 21st Century and make new memories and new friendships together.

When I think of homecoming I think of the statement:

            Yesterday is History,

            Tomorrow is a Mystery,

Today is a gift so we call it the Present.

Because our days at Western are History, we have made. We do not know what tomorrow may bring, as life seems to get shorter and shorter, which is why we have to take the gifts of the present and make the most of each day today by sharing memories, laughing, telling others what they mean or meant to you, and forming friendships. What a better opportunity to do that than Homecoming Saturday November 10th. Be sure to mark your calendars to be “Movin’ on Up” to Bowling Green, KY for WKU Home Economics/Consumer & Family Sciences Alumni Brunch at 10:00AM.

Looking forward to seeing you then!

 Your 2007-2008 President,

Reeca Carver
