According
to a press
release
dated April 10, 2009, from the United States Department of Agriculture,
a WKU Family and Consumer Sciences Education graduate, Dr. Janey K.
Thornton, was named Deputy Undersecretary for Food, Nutrition and
Consumer Services. Dr. Thornton will provide policy direction for
the
Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), which administers the national food
assistance programs, and the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion
(CNPP), which "develops and promotes dietery guidance that links
scientific research to the nturition needs of consumers."
Agriculture
Secretary Tom Vilsack says of her, "Dr. Thornton has an outstanding,
hand-on background in childhood nutrition. She is a leader in
this
area.... I look forward to working with Dr. Thornton as we tackle
challenges of childhood obesity, childhood hunger, and school-focused
nutrition." |

new minor in Meeting,
Convention, and Exposition Planning was approved by the WKU Board
of Regents on Janaury 30, 2009. This minor will be available for
students to declare in the Spring, 2009 semester. Students will
take CFS-171 Introduction to Management in the Hospitality
Industry, CFS-313 Practicum (must be in Meeting,
Convention, and Exposition Planning), CFS-375 Meeting and Convention
Management, REC-306 Recreation Program Planning, MKT-325
Personal Selling and an additional 6 hours of selected electives chosen
from courses in CFS, Communications, Horticulutre, Management,
Marketing, Psychology or Recreation. For more information or to
