Western Kentucky University has strong focus on applied research, service and problem-solving in support of economic development,
quality of life, and improvement of education at all levels.
The university has always fostered undergraduate research as one of the major educational elements for our students.
The Applied Physics Institute is the perfect place for integrated research and educational activities.
The API provides research experiences for students and postdoctoral scientists.
Increasing student engagement in applied research, API provides hands-on training in real life projects using novel experimental techniques
in various disciplines such as Condensed Matter Physics, Nuclear and Atomic Physics, Biology, and others.
The institute promotes student success, and prepares students to be productive citizens.
Identifying and integrating contemporary real world issues as part of their learning,
students develop awareness of their opportunities as responsible citizens living and working in a global
society.
API engages students with communities other than their own as
part of their university experience. Working together with our partners, companies and national laboratories,
students develop their capacity to apply knowledge and training to address relevant concerns.
Multidisciplinary nature of the institute's activities and projects
broadens student's exposure to diversity of peoples, ideas and cultures.
The API faculty members are professors from the
WKU
Department's of
Physics,
Biology,
Mathematics, and
Engineering.
