  About API

The Applied Physics Institute is a multidisciplinary center performing research and development projects in the areas of nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, material science, nanotechnology, and medical physics.

The WKU R&D Center Logo The Applied Physics Iinstitute is supported by the Western Kentucky University, federal and state R&D grants, and contracts.
The API Building The institute is located at the WKU Center for Research and Development, and is a member of the WKU Applied Research and Technology Program.

01-21-2010 • API Hosts High School Tour

API hosted a tour in November for high school students to walk through the institute and learn about the type of work that is done. There were students from Greenwood High School, as well as a group from STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

1-20-2010 • Students Attend 20th Annual Argonne Symposium
API student researchers attended the 20th Annual Argonne Symposium for Undergraduates in Science, Engineering and Mathematics in Argonne, Illinois. At the symposium the students were able to present current research projects that they have been working on, as well as listen and learn about research by students from other universities.

11-11-2009 • Mayme Van Meveren Attends Women's Conference
Mayme Van Meveren, attended the Women in Physics Conference at the University of Nebraska. The conference was comprised of women from many different universities and institutions, where they gave individual poster presentations on their most current studies of research.

Highly trained members of the Applied Physics Institute use fundamental physics principles to address research issues of technological importance at frontiers of science and engineering.

• Education
API provides research experiences for graduate and undergraduate students. They receive hands-on training in real life projects using novel experimental techniques.

• Economy
The API creates partnership with industry and jobs in Kentucky and nationwide. Our facilities are available for use by academic or commercial partners.
