Self-Profile Statement: Like many other faculty members, I did not plan to be a teacher. I discovered, however, that I enjoyed most of the aspects of being a university faculty member after trying it for a few years. There is a strong sense of satisfaction in helping students discover what is important in our discipline and in trying to help them master the concepts which are most troublesome.

I still enjoy doing computer science in addition to teaching computer science. Throughout my teaching career I have continued to design and program software systems for various business, government, and religious organizations in Kentucky. In this way, I feel that I have kept a little closer to the trends and problems involved in being a practitioner of our discipline.

On a personal level, I have a wife and two grown children. My family and church have been a very important part of my life.
