If you decide to pursue a women’s studies minor, lots of people are probably going to ask you this question: “But what can you do with a minor in women’s studies?” You might be surprised at the number of options.
A minor in women’s studies will provide you with all the skills of other liberal arts degrees: critical and ethical thinking, strong writing and speaking skills, and the ability to present information clearly in an organized format; however, women’s studies will take these skills further, helping you understand the sometimes “hidden” dynamics related to race, gender, and class. Such thinking and communitcation skills are often in short supply on the job, so savvy employers value employees who have them. As wonderful as it is to be appreciated for your skills, it's just as important to know for yourself how to interpret the world and your experience in it. Women's studies helps you gain that kind of breadth of knowledge and experience.
After graduation, women’s studies graduates often find meaningful work in the following areas:
• Public Policy
• Public Relations
• Graduate Studies
• Counseling and Social Services
• Public Health
• Arts
• Women’s Shelters and Rape Crisis Centers
• Entrepreneurship and Business
• Teaching
