My primary teaching and research interests are in the areas of statistics, survey research, and demography.  In the past few years I have taught graduate classes in these areas and served on a number of graduate thesis committees.  Topics have included sterilization in the U.S., a survey of attitudes toward diversity, fertility trends in Kentucky counties from 1970 to 1990, partner abuse, the impact of NAFTA on the coffee commodity system in Mexico, and factors influencing non-traditional students' decisions to seek higher education.  The graduate program is an integral and important component of the Department of Sociology.  In addition to my duties as head of the department, I also am pleased to be able to support the program and graduate students by serving on thesis committees where I can be of assistance.
