I am very much interested in working with graduate students in the areas of diversity understanding and development. My latest two publications look at diversity and its impact on adolescents and schools. My current projects include grant opportunities for strategies on diversity development of adolescents.

My classes in race relations, cultural studies, social institutions, social inequality and introduction to sociology are designed to employ instructional methods that demasculinize and demystify race, class, and gender. Students are challenged to seek knowledge, wisdom, and enjoyment in the classroom. I strive to have all students thinking about future possibilities for conceptual innovations and expanded notions of social justice at local, state, national, and global levels.

My pilot study with students from both city and county middle schools in Bowling Green elevated the desire to see young people take charge of their diversity developmental needs. I used conservation as a method to get students talking openly about their diversity needs. The study has yielded a manuscript titled: Mattering: Expanding Knowledge of Adolescents Involvement in Ethnic and Cultural Diversity Skill Building.

I strongly encourage graduate students to read my article in Women Faculty of Color in the White Classroom, titled "Guess Who's Coming to Class". The entire anthology explores the larger question of how social distinctions shape classroom social life. The book has gotten positive reviews and is an excellent resource for those concerned with enabling the diversification of the faculty of institutions of higher learning.
