My primary interests include gender and sexuality studies, race and ethnic studies, and Asian American studies. I am currently working on a book manuscript, The Paradox of Love, Race, Romance, and Desire in Interracial Relationships between Asian Americans and White Americans. The book explores various patterns of racialized desire and processes of negotiation observed among Asian Americans and white Americans. Using life-history narratives, it discusses the contradictions and tensions inherent in intimacy, which derive from race, class, and gender. I have published in The Journal of Asian American Studies. My next project examines the increasing incidence of non-marriage in Japan--a phenomenon shaped by gender, class, and career. At WKU, I teach Race, Class and Gender, Introductory Sociology, and Race and Ethnic Relations.
Research interests: gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity, Asian Americans, and Japan.
