Dr. Marshall Scott has been teaching trumpet and directing the Jazz Band at Western Kentucky University since 1990 where he is a Full Professor. Prior to coming to WKU he performed similar duties for four years on the faculty of the University of South Dakota. He also taught Trumpet at the Interlochen Arts Camp for 14 summers and is a Bach Trumpet Clinician for the Conn-Selmer Corp.. His degrees are a Bachelor of Music Education from Ohio University, a Master of Music form the University of Notre Dame, and a Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

As a performer he has played in a wide variety of ensembles ranging from playing principal trumpet in the Sioux City (IA), Bowling Green Western, and Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra, to performing with brass ensembles including The Wisconsin Brass Quintet, Dallas Brass, Canadian Brass and Kentuckiana Brass. He has also accompanied entertainers and jazz artists including Bob Hope, Red Skelton, Hal Linden, Aretha Franklin, Rosemary Clooney, The Four Tops & Temptations, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Natalie Cole, and Burnadette Peters.

While on the Faculty at USD, Marshall catalogued a portion of trumpets for the world renowned Shrine to Music Museum. This document, “The American Piston Valved Cornets and Trumpets of the Shrine to Music Museum”, serves as a research tool and has led to articles in the International Trumpet Guild Journal.

Marshall has served as prelims and finals judge and chaired the Jazz Competitions for the International Trumpet Guild and also performed on the Festival of Trumpets concerts. He has also served as a judge and performed at the National Trumpet Competition in Washington D.C.. As a member of the Kentukicana Brass, he has performed at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, the New York Brass Conf. for Scholarships, and the National MENC conf. and the Midwest Band and Orchestra Conf. in Chicago.

He can be heard on CD recordings including: “Lumen” as a member of the Louisville Trumpet and Brass Ensembles, “Earth Dances” as a member of the Kentuckiana Brass, and performing his own compositions on “The Marshall Scott Jazz Quintet”.

Locally, Marshall enjoys residing in Bowling Green with his wife and 3 children. He enjoys performing with local groups including the WKU Faculty Brass Quintet, the WKU Faculty Jazz Quintet, the Martin/Scott Jazz Duo, Lost River Cave Big Band, and the Doc Livingston Orchestra.
