Poet Allison Joseph, born in England of Caribbean parents, raised in the Bronx, is currently an Associate Professor of English at Southern Illinois University and the author of What Keeps Us Here (1992), Soul Train (1997), In Every Seam (1997), Imitation of Life (2003), and Worldly Pleasures (2004). She is the editor and poetry editor of Crab Orchard Review and director of the Young Writers Workshop for high school writers, which she founded in 1999.

Nebula Award-winning science fiction writer Terry Bisson, author of seven novels and scores of celebrated short stories, film adaptations, and co-authorings, is a Kentucky native most proud of his induction, alongside Darrel Waltrip, Johnny Depp, Cliff Hagan, and Bill Monroe, into the Owensboro Hall of Fame. He is long-time best friends with Joe Survant, WKU Professor Emeritus and ex-Kentucky Poet Laureate. Upon receiving the 2000 Short Story Nebula from the late great Robert Sheckley, a hero and role model of his, Terry told him, "If it weren't for you, I'd probably have a job today."

Award-winning novelist, poet, and playwright Sallie Bingham, former book editor for The Courier-Journal, founder of the Kentucky Foundation for Women and The American Voice, will read from her latest collection of short stories, Red Car (Sarabande Press, 2008).
