The WKU Writing Project is a member of a nationwide program called the National Writing Project which works to:
The WKU Writing Project operates on a teachers-teaching-teachers model. Successful writing teachers from all content areas and grade levels attend our invitational Summer Institute in June. During the following school year, these teachers provide workshops for others in the schools. In addition, the Project's Outreach Program is prepared to work with individual schools or districts as needed.
The NWP believes that literacy is at the foundation
of school and workplace success, of citizenship in a democracy, and of
learning in all disciplines. In addition, modern technology has increased
the need for students to write and think clearly and coherently.
The National Writing Project focuses on the teaching of writing for practicing
teachers while providing a model for ongoing professional development that
builds independent local programs.
