Graduate Program Mission Statement:
To develop and implement a distinctive graduate program in applied organizational communication that meets and then exceeds the needs of our constituencies--that is, our current and potential students; the employers of our current and former students; the university community; and the public, which includes our alumni.

This degree provides a distinctive experience in applied organizational communication. The program prepares students for a variety of careers and pursuits in which advanced communication study is helpful -- especially corporate management and personnel relations, sales, marketing, intercultural communication, group decision making and other areas requiring specialized communication skills. The degree also helps prepare students for future graduate study and college teaching. Available are daytime and week night courses along with an active week-end program held on Friday evenings and all day on Saturday during the fall, spring and summer. Weekend courses are offered on a bi-term basis (1st and 2nd eight weeks). They are held four weekends, usually every other week during the bi-term time span. We also offer a variety of distance learning opportunities that include interactive television and web-based technology.

Admission
The department recognizes as admissible to our program those applicants eligible for admission to the Graduate College who also have an undergraduate degree that would benefit from additional communicaiton skills (business, public relations, sociology, psychology, teaching, etc.). The University requires that the applicant's GRE (verbal plus quantitative) score times the undergraduate GPA must equal a minimum of 2200 points, along with an analytical writing score of 3.5 or better. The GRE is required before admission to graduate school. (It can be taken on computer now for immediate results.) A student can be accepted conditionally into the graduate program pending the outcome of his/her GRE score; however, the student cannot continue beyond one semester until the score requirements are met. For further information on the GRE, visit the web site: GRE.org/writing.htm/
