An International Career...
(Adapted from "Think 'Job Skills' First... Then Think International Career", Planning Job Choices, 1998, National Association of Colleges and Employers)
- involves working for a company that views the world as its market
- may require living and working abroad or may require working in your home country and traveling abroad on occasion
- involves contact with individuals from other countries, whether in person or through telecommunications
- usually requires a specific skill (e.g., finance, computer programming, sales), along with a base of multicultural interest, proficiency or experience
- is extremely demanding - if work is primarily outside the home country - requiring vast amounts of time, a 24-hour schedule, precarious balance between work, travel, business contacts and personal time
