WESTERN KENTUCKY, GEORGIA WIN AT OLD TIMER' S CLASSIC
Bowling Green, Ky. -- The Western Kentucky men's cross country team placed five of the top eight runners en route to winning the Old Timer's Classic at Kerekiakes Park in Bowling Green, Ky. The University of Georgia women's squad won the 5K race, while Western finished third overall. Duncan Shangase (Jr./Durban, South Africa) led Western by placing second at 25:46, just three seconds behind Southern Indiana's Ben Kapsoiya. Fellow Hilltopper Robert Pritchett (So./Capetown, South Africa) was close behind at 26:03, followed by Iain Don-Wauchope (26:18), Aaron Mullins (26:32) and Brant Beard (26:32). Western finished with just 23 points in the 8K race, well ahead of second place Georgia with 60. The Lady Toppers took third overall with a score of 79, trailing only Georgia (31) and Southern Indiana (55). Western got strong performances from Claire Gibbons (Jr./Cork, Ireland) who finished second with a career-best 17:57, and Valerie Lynch (Jr./Cork, Ireland), who placed third at 18:07. The Western cross country teams next compete at the NCAA District IX Invitational Saturday, Sept. 26 in Birmingham, Ala. |
