Western Kentucky University continues to be a leader among higher educational institutions in providing a quality education to a diverse student body. Each year, Western awards diplomas to first generation college graduates to the delight of their families and the community. It is our hope that these new graduates spread the word that Western continues to be a quality institution for any individual seeking the opportunities that a degree presents.

We are at a crucial time. It is necessary to use all available resources in the challenge to attract and retain quality students. Parents often ask what they can do. Often we hear, "I would like to help my child and others if I just knew more about Western." As a member of this Council, you will begin aiding in the formulation of answers to these questions.

We look for the time when parents and relatives of present and former students will reach out in their community to speak of Western to prospective students and parents. We anticipate parents choosing to financially support programs that aid students or keep parents more in touch. We expect a higher sense of pride in the community and in the families that choose Western Kentucky University.
