COMMUNITY
Preparing Next Generation Nonprofit Leaders

Student engagement in the community provides service opportunities and a chance to gain broader perspectives on the nonprofit sector. Our American Humanics students plan and carry out projects to serve community members in need.

On November 13, 2006, the AH program announced a new initiative designed to assist local nonprofit agencies. On April 4, 2007 the WKU American Humanics Student Association (AHSA) announced "Friends of The Lost River, Inc." as their selection for 1st Annual Community Partnership. The students are working on this project during the 2007-2008 academic year.

On November 15, 2007, the WKU AHSA announced the 2nd Annual WKU AH Community Partnership Request for Proposals. Please click here for a copy of the Request for Proposals.

In Fall 2005, the American Humanics program partnered with the ALIVE Center and the WKU Student Volunteer Bureau to conduct a community food drive - "Western's family helping families." This project was held in recognition of National Family Volunteer Day and Western Kentucky University’s Centennial.

Nonprofit agencies interested in becoming involved with the American Humanics program should contact Dr. Raymond Poff (see information below).
