Jot List

Have students take out two or three sheets of paper.  Looking at the map, have students mark three separate places where something happened.  Have students think of one of these places and begin creating a jot list of words or phrases.  Students are to try and go from the beginning to the end of the story.

I modeled this for my students, by telling them another story from my map and writing my jot list on the board.  Have the students repeat the exercise with the other two places selected on their map.

Give students about 15 minutes, on each location.
