For this activity, I require my students to use old copies of Rolling Stone magazine. Most students are not interest in, say, the music of the early 1980's, so they will focus on reading for structures and not be distracted by more modern bands. More specifically ask them to use the first review in the "Recordings" section of that magazine because is generally more developed than later reviews.
