I asked the students to read the handout .

When they completed the top portion of the assignment; the three pages of research, they had to have it okayed by me before moving on to the next step.

The students used approximately two class periods searching for other information that they may choose to use in their piece.  During these research periods the students used encyclopedias, resource books, and the internet.  I spent quite a bit of time searching for materials on my own so that there would be less class time used searching and more time used writing.  Also, please remember, when using the internet, you have to be careful of what sites you gain information from.

Once they completed the research they would then move on to choosing a title and producing a lead.
