Admit/Exit Slips Example 10

Write about using tables when problem solving.

Sample A
Using tables in problem solving, to me is very easier.  To me it seems faster because it's like a visual that you can write on paper to help with problem solving.

Sample B
I don't use tables because I think it is a waste of time.

Sample C
Tables help me to organize the information or data in the problem and figure out how they are related.  I can also see what parts are missing.

Sample D
Tables are one of the problem solfing ways we have learnt.  It is an easy way.

Teacher Comments
This question was used during a unit on problem solving strategies taught early in the school year.  I was looking for student comments that demonstrated understanding of tables as a visual aide and/or organizational tool.  Samples A and C meet this criteria and received 12 points out of 10.  Samples B and D received full participation points.  All responses provided excellent discussion the following day.  Sample B led into the discussion of choosing appropriate strategies for particular problems and how our personal preferences influence our problem solving style.  Sample D and several other similar responses provided an opening to review and discuss why it is important to reread the question asked and your answer to make sure you have answered the question asked.
