Teacher Commentary

With this particular assignment, the students were expected to show their understanding of Greece and how Alexander the Great's accomplishments influenced the growth of Greece. Though the example shown was taken from the subject area of Social Studies, Open-Response questions fit in with all academic disciplines.  The particular assignment worked well with the study of Greece, because it gave me the ability to assess my students and myself as far as whether or not the students met the goals and objectives of the unit.  I will admit that after reviewing the responses, the conclusion was made that either the class did not understand our study of Greece, or they were unable to pick up on the most important parts of the study.

This assignment was intended to demonstrate student knowledge of material presented in class along with issuing writing ability/progress within the individual student.  Open-Response writing excercises are also intended for use as an evaulation tool of the teacher, because it allows the teacher to utilize the information given and respond to his/her teaching style, strategies, and whether or not his/her goals and/or objectives in the unit were met.
